United introduced the "friendly skies" slogan in its 1965 advertising.

United's "Take Me Along" promotion, introduced in August 1967, convinced businessmen to travel with their wives by offering special savings on the spouse's ticket.

In 1969, this "Come Fly With Me" ad was another chapter in the "Fly the Friendly Skies" campaign, which became the airline industry's longest-running marketing message.

LOGOS






While not an official logo, the slanted spire, developed by designer Raymond Loewy, was used on United's aircraft tails in the late 1960s and began replacing the shield. The bold typeface used to spell out United's name changed to the more delicate Bookman typeface.

When United Air Lines merged with Capital Airlines in 1961, this advertisement showed the merging of the two logos.
