Fall-ing Fares at United Airlines

CHICAGO, August 5, 2008 – United Airlines’ fares are falling this autumn for travel to many favorite destinations across the globe. These special fares are available for purchase for select U.S. and international destinations, and customers can book their travel at united.com or call United reservations at 1-800-UNITED1 (1-800-864-8331).**  

Sample domestic fares on United are each way for travel based on required roundtrip purchase by August 8, 2008, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday with travel beginning by August 19, 2008 and complete by November 20, 2008. See below or visit united.com for complete terms and conditions.**

  • $177 – Chicago-Los Angeles
  • $124 – Chicago-Denver
  • $55 – Los Angeles-San Francisco
  • $173 – San Francisco-New York (JFK)
  • $86 – Washington Dulles-Orlando

**FARE FACTS: Fares are each way based on required roundtrip purchase for United Economy® travel on United Airlines®, Ted®, Lufthansa, and United Express® carriers. For tickets purchased through United reservation offices or at airport ticket counters, additional reservation fees will apply: $25 for United reservation office bookings and $30 for airport ticket counter bookings. No reservation fees are added for tickets purchased at united.com. Fees are subject to change without notice. Other restrictions may apply. Fares purchased through other distribution channels may also be higher.  When purchasing from United, always go to united.com to find United's lowest fares. Seats are limited and may not be available on all flights/dates. Purchase Requirements: Tickets for U.S. and Canada destinations must be purchased at least 14 days in advance.  Tickets for Atlantic and Pacific destinations must be purchased at least 7 days in advance.  Sale fares apply to U.S. and Canada point-of-sale only. All tickets must be purchased by 8/8/08. Reservations and ticket purchases on united.com must be completed simultaneously. Travel Days/Dates:   U.S. and Canada fares are valid for travel on Tue/Wed/Sat for travel beginning 8/19/08, with all travel complete by 11/20/08.  Atlantic fares are valid for travel on Mon-Thu, for outbound travel between 10/27/08-12/11/08 and 12/25/08-12/31/08.  Pacific fares are valid for travel on Mon-Thu for outbound travel between 8/17/08-11/30/08, except where noted below.  Mexico fares are valid for travel on Mon-Thu for travel beginning 8/5/08, with all travel complete by 12/10/08, except where noted below.  Brazil fares are valid for travel on Mon-Thu for outbound travel between 9/2/08-11/17/08.  Fares for other days of the week are higher. Blackout Dates:  None. U.S. and Canada Min/Max Stay:   Fares require a 3 night, Saturday, or Sunday night minimum stay, depending on the day of departure.  A maximum stay of 30 days is permitted.  For travel to/from Canada, no minimum or maximum stay requirements exist.   International Min/Max Stay: For Atlantic fares, a Saturday night minimum stay is required and a maximum stay of 30 days is permitted.  For Pacific fares, a 6 night minimum stay is required, and a maximum stay of 30 days is permitted.  For Mexico fares, a 2 night minimum stay is required, and a maximum stay of 30 days is permitted. Additional Taxes/Fees:   U.S./Puerto Rico/U.S. Virgin Islands fares do not include a $3.50 per flight segment tax.  A flight segment is defined as one takeoff and one landing.  Fares do not include the September 11th Security Fee of $2.50 per enplanement at a U.S. airport or Passenger Facility Charges of up to $18, which may be collected depending on the itinerary.  Fares for Hawaii and Alaska do not include a $7.70 (each way) departure tax.  For travel from Canada, fares do not include U.S. Inspection fees of $7, taxes/fees imposed by the Canadian government of up to $19.50, and a $30.20 international departure and arrival tax if outside of the 225 mile buffer zone.   All international fares are subject to U.S. arrival and departure taxes and agricultural, immigrations and customs fees of up to $50.  For travel to some countries, additional airport, transportation, embarkation, security, and passenger service taxes/surcharges of up to $250 will apply depending on destination.  For return travel from some countries, fares do not include airport and/or departure taxes of up to $45, which may be collected by the foreign government. U.S./Canada Checked Baggage Fees: If you are traveling on or after August 18, 2008 on an Economy ticket or Economy award ticket purchased on or after June 13, 2008, a $15 service fee will apply for your first checked bag. Also, as previously announced, a $25 fee will apply for a second checked bag, depending on when you purchased your ticket and when you are traveling. Itinerary Changes: U.S. and Canada tickets are non-refundable.  No changes may be made after ticketed departure date for any portion of the ticket.  Tickets whose reservations are cancelled prior to the ticketed departure date are valid for travel one year from the original issuance date for a service charge ($150 for U.S., Canada and Mexico, $250 for Atlantic/Pacific, $300 for Brazil).  Changes made on or before departure are subject to fare rules and a service charge ($150 for U.S., Canada and Mexico, $250 for Atlantic/Pacific, $300 for Brazil).  If a reservation is not cancelled before the ticketed departure date, the ticket has no value. Exceptions for Shanghai: Fares are valid for outbound travel between 8/26/08-11/30/08.  Exceptions for Tokyo: Fares are valid for outbound travel between 8/25/08-10/21/08.  Exceptions for Mexico City: Fares are valid for travel beginning 9/2/08, with all travel complete by 12/10/08.  No minimum stay requirement applies, and a maximum stay of 2 months is permitted.
